SFCS Celebrates our Education Garden!
Shannon Forest Celebrates Our 2011-2012 Educational Garden!
Students in all grade levels at Shannon Forest Christian School (SFCS) will benefit from a new addition to the campus - the Celebration Garden. From Science programs using this living laboratory for study, to teachers in the Arts and Humanities using the garden for inspiration and discussion, classes at SFCS will use the new garden space all throughout the year.
The garden will include features that will attract butterflies, hummingbirds and other small insects for study. It will also provide a place for students to grow fresh food from seed and seedlings that will not only give them nourishment, but also offer them living examples of plant studies. Science students will have a new place to conduct soil and water analysis and the garden will include a shallow water feature for classes to study the life cycle of small water animals. Students will also learn to care for God’s earth using available organic materials and solar power.
SFCS seniors will also participate in the harvest and distribution of produce from the garden to local food banks during the summer months. Finally, the Celebration Garden will also provide an attractive and reverent place for our students, parents and visitors to enjoy the beauty of God’s world.
Thank you to the following volunteers who have agreed to be Celebration Garden Mentors:

Funding:
The garden seed fund came from a generous donation by the Class of 2011, along with private and corporate donations of both money and supplies. We welcome funds and in-kind donations along with gardeners who would like to donate their time!
Thank you to: Lowe’s Garden Center, Gaia Garden Center, Kohl’s A-Team, Hands On Greenville & the Boy Scouts.
The garden’s greatest need right now is to secure the area from Garlington Road with an attractive fence. Please consider purchasing a beautiful plaque for $65 that will be displayed on the fence to honor permanently a special person or relationship. We are selling 40 of these plaques to raise funds for the fence.
