Shannon Forest Christian School (SFCS) completed the 2009/2010 sports season with an impressive 2nd place ranking in the 2010 Wachovia Cup for 1A schools in the North Carolina Athletic Association (NCISAA). The Wachovia Cup, presented and sponsored by Wachovia Bank, N.A., recognizes overall excellence in high school athletics among NCISAA member institutions. SFCS totaled a point score of 300, falling by a close margin to 1st ranked Greenfield School who had a total of 307.5 points. Rounding out the top five were Trinity of Chapel Hill/Durham with a distant 235 points, Wayne Christian School with 222.5 and Statesville Christian took 5th place with 200 points.
Since 1985 the Wachovia Cup has been presented to 1A and 2A classified schools with the best overall Interscholastic Athletic Programs. Beginning in the 1999/2000 season, the Wachovia Cup began awarding in three classifications, 1A, 2A, and 3A, with awards being issued to the school with the most combined points. The winning schools in each classification receive an engraved silver cup and a banner. Both awards are provided as permanent recognition of that year's athletic excellence.
