SFCS Crusaders Close Season With Win On Senior Night!
February 20, 2008 - The Shannon Forest Christian School Men’s Varsity Basketball team took on the Rabun Gap Eagles in their last regular season game of the year on Tuesday, February 12. In the last home game for seniors Robert Hawthorne and Roderic Maybin, the Crusaders played excellent defense in the first half holding the Eagle attack to just 11 first half points. With Shannon up by 10 in the third, the Eagles hit 5 three pointers in a row. Heading into the fourth quarter, the game was tied at 32-32. With the game tied, junior Jason Johnson hit a 3 and then connected on 10-12 from the line to help give SFCS the 52-40 win. Maybin added 15 points in his last game at SFCS and junior guard Mark Culpepper chipped in with 10. Despite playing with a broken hand, senior guard Robert Hawthorne dished out 5 assists. “It was a great way to send Robert and Roderic out,”said Head coach David Thompson. “It was not only great to win on senior night, but with the win we captured our fourth conference win of the season. That is the most regular season conference wins we have had in six years.” Two days later the Crusaders ended their season with a first round Conference Tournament loss to Rabun Gap at Rabun Gap. “It was tough to see Rob and Rod end their senior year Thursday,” said Thompson. “We will miss those two a lot. Some guys are going to have to really step up next year and pick up the void these two have left behind.”
