SFCS Middle School Golf Team Wins CMSC Conference & Tournament!

May 8, 2008 - The Shannon Forest Christian School (SFCS) Crusader, Middle School Golf team pulled off a victory in the post season Carolina Middle School Conference (CMSC) Tournament. All 7 conference teams played at the 18-hole, par 72, Carolina Springs Golf Club on Monday, May 5.  The competition was tough, with SFCS and Mitchell Road Christian Academy (MCA) coming out on top with a combined team score of 358. A playoff, matching cards from the highest handicap hole, pulled the Crusaders to victory.  Saint Joseph’s came in third with a 368, followed by Spartanburg Day at 398, Saint Mary's with 403, Our Lady of the Rosary at 422, and Mt. Zion with a 431.  Leading the Crusaders was Clay Young with a score of 85.  Young posted the 3rd lowest score out of all teams, and received All-Conference Honors.  Lucas Ward, Allen Randall and Carson Dils all supported the team winning score.  Ward and Randall were also named to the All-Conference team   “This was the perfect ending to a perfect season, “said Head Coach Jeff Dils.  “Achieving victory as Conference Champions, followed up by winning the Conference Tournament is a huge achievement.  Even with all this success, each of these young men kept their composure and showed exceptional sportsmanship throughout the season,” added Dils.   The SFCS team of young men played well together all year.  Each member of the team played a critical role in at least one tournament.  “We needed each player,” Dils added.  “Without one of them, we would not have been a successful team.”  Coach Dils felt that part of the success was simple support.  “Not one time did I see disappointment that a team member shot a lower score than one of the other boys,” said Dils. “They are all competitive and wanted to have the lowest score, but not by sacrificing a high score from a teammate, by playing better on their own.  They all understood the term ‘Golf Team,’”   “The definition of team may sound self explanatory, but is often forgotten by many of us,” finalized Dils.  “It has been a privilege for me to coach such a great group of young men.”
