SFCS Varsity Golf Finishes In 2nd Place

May 15, 2008 - The Shannon Forest Christian School (SFCS) Varsity Golf team ended its season with a 2nd Place finish at the Carolina Athletic Association (CAA ) Conference Tournament last week losing by only five shots to Christ School. The team played well on the first nine as they built a five shot lead going to the closing nine holes. Christ School, however, played a little better on the back and the Crusaders unfortunately shot 10 strokes worse on the back for a team total of 340. The team was led by All-Conference players Branden Smith who shot 80 and Katelyn Bensch who shot 85. The team finished the season with a 15-4-1 record and will return everyone for next season, except one four-year player Will Robinson who is a member of the 2008 graduating class. The team failed to qualify for the state tournament, but SFCS junior Branden Smith qualified to compete as an individual.
