SFCS Varsity Swimmers Complete Successful Season

          March 1, 2010 - The Shannon Forest Christian School (SFCS) Varsity Swim team finished up a successful season at the state meet in Charlotte, North Carolina on Monday, February 22, with multiple best times good results. 480 swimmers competed in the meet, creating over 18 heats for the boys' 50 free event. The competition was intense and because only the top 8 were scored the Crusaders did not end up with many points. Peter Heitman, SFCS' team captain, took 7th place in the 100 free and 8th place in the 200 IM to give the boys' team their only points. Rachel Graham was the only scorer for the girls' team. She tied for 8th place in the 16th of 16 heats of 50 free swimmers. The girls' medley relay consisting of Emma Knight, Elizabeth Ellis, Nina Aragon, and R.Graham improved their time by seven seconds. Other swimmers significantly dropping their times were Ellis in 200 IM, Lorenzo Barberis in the 500 free and Shelly Whiting in both of her events, the 100 free and 100 back. Aragon also improved in the 100 back, Eli Wilson cut time in both the 100 fly and 50 free, Kooper Buchanan, Justin Wright, and R.Graham improved their times in the 100 free. "The team scores were not able to show the unity and spirit of the team," commented Head Coach Chris Gibbs. "This was a committed and dedicated team that worked hard consistently. They enjoyed and encouraged each other during meets and practices. They are looking forward to breaking more school records next year and to an even better season," concluded Gibbs
