Junior Varsity Crusaders Fall to Rabun Gap and Asheville School

February 6, 2012 - The Shannon Forest Christian School (SFCS) Junior Varsity Basketball team suffered two, consecutive losses this past week to Rabun Gap and Asheville School. On Tuesday, January 31, the Eagles soared to a 50-34 win. SFCS struggled to handle the full court pressure, but did manage to cut the lead to 8 early in the fourth quarter. The press finally took its toll as Rabun Gap closed the game on a 8-0 run. Brandon Troka led all scorers with 18 while Ben McGrey chipped in with 7.
On Friday, February 3, the Crusaders took on the Blues in a close game. The teams played an even first half with the lead changing hands several times. In the third quarter, Troka scored a season high 9 points in the period which kept his team within striking distance heading into the fourth. In the final frame, two huge threes late in the game along with clutch free throw shooting doomed the Crusaders fate. SFCS lost by a final score of 49-42. Next up Shannon Forest will face Christ School on Wednesday, February 8, and will then play their final game of the season the following week at home against the Asheville Trailblazers.
