SFCS Lady Crusaders End Season with Loss in CAA Tourney
February 21, 2012 - The final curtain closed on the 2011-2012 season Friday, February 18, in Asheville, North Carolina for the Shannon Forest Christian School (SFCS) Lady Crusaders with a loss to eventual champion Carolina Day School (CDS). "The season didn't have as many victories as we had hoped, but at season's end the team was playing it's best basketball," remarked SFCS Coach Robert Hawthorne. "The goal at the beginning of the season was to get better each succeeding month and team accomplished that goal," added Hawthorne. "This year's team will lose no players to graduation, so the future is bright, not only from our returning players, but those players from our Middle School team that will be moving up and pushing players for time on the floor."
SFCS will be looking for a big season from returning players, especially Katelyn Overby, Amy Spranger and Kissie Byrd, all returning for their 3rd Varsity season and Sadie Connor, who will be returning for her 5th Varsity season. Conner was selected to the CAA All-Conference team at season's end and scored her 1000th career point during the regular season.
"We are going to be much improved next season and we're expecting all returning players to work hard in the off-season, so that we will hit the ground running and next season return to the NCISAA state tourney, a place we are accustomed to being at this time of year," concluded Hawthorne.
