Students in Shannon Forest Christian School’s Upper School English classes will enjoy the following projects in the 2009/2010 school year!
- After studying the novel Great Expectations, students celebrate with a “Miss Havisham's Jilted Wedding Reception!” This brings a unique and fun-filled ending to the study of a classic novel.
- Listen to the Music is a mini-project that includes the interpretation and analysis of specific musical selections.
- After the reading and study of the classic Huck Finn, students enjoy a traditional southern breakfast celebration.
- Children's Classics is a mini-project that includes reading 8-10 children's books and follow up activities that include discussions, writing about the broader, deeper relevance of the books’ topics and themes, and designing different book covers for each book.
- The Daily Boom is a SFCS newspaper produced by 5th and 6th Grade students.
- The Association of Christian Schools International Spelling Bee is an annual event. In 2009, 36 students participated with 10 receiving 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place medals. 5th Grade student Delayne Nickles and 6th Grade student Brian Coffey placed 4th & 10th respectively to compete at the ACSI Regional Spelling Bee. Delayne Nickles captured a regional 4th place to represent SFCS at the ACSI National Spelling Bee in Washington, DC.
- Lower School students in 1st – 4th Grades concentrate on various, appropriate levels of Phonics, Spelling, Reading Comprehension, Grammar, English and Writing.
Foreign Language
French Class students celebrate a Mardi Gras! that includes an overview of the history of this tradition, vocabulary, puzzles, games, making masks and they also enjoy a variety of food.
Spanish III students celebrate their knowledge of the language with a Fiesta!
SFCS Latin students take the annual National Latin Exam and 12 students placed above the national average with four students achieving outstanding scores.
Early Childhood students in Preschool 3, Preschool 4, Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten 5, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Grade study the Spanish language as part of their curriculum.
