Music
“Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous!
For praise from the upright is beautiful. Praise the Lord with the harp;
Make melody to Him with an instrument of ten strings.
Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy.”
-- Psalm 33:1-3 --
Our music department at Shannon Forest Christian School exists for the purpose of training students to use their God-given talents for His glory, singing His praise, and sharing His Word through music and their lives. Our general music classes (PK3-8th Grade) and choirs (6th-12th Grade) explore various styles and genres of music, learns the basics of music theory and sight-singing, and rehearses for various performances throughout the year. Choral erformances include, but are not limited to, All School Chapel services, Christmas and Spring Concerts, Grandparents Day and other Lower School programs, school preview nights, as well as performances in the local community. Opportunities for personal accomplishment are available to students in the form of auditions for South Carolina All-State Chorus and the ACSI Solo and Ensemble Festival.
Churches and community organizations interested in hosting a performance by our music department should contact the upper school office at 864-678-5115 or email Ashley King at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Early Childhood, Lower School, and Upper School General Music Classes
Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten music classes discover many sights-and-sounds of different musical instruments and styles of music. Students explore how music makes them feel and learn to express themselves through creative movement.First through Fifth Grade students learn about reading rhythms, music terminology, reading music, basic form, and matching pitch. A variety of techniques and teaching methods are used to allow the student to experience and participate in the joys of music. Special efforts are made to try to incorporate music songs that relate to different topics being studied in the core classroom.
Phantom of the Opera Study
As part of Shannon Forest’s Lower School Music Program our 4th and 5th Grade students will be studying The Phantom of the Opera. This eleven-class period study will focus on understanding relationships between music and the other arts, as well as understanding music in relation to history and culture. Select film clips will be used to demonstrate opera terms, analyze, describe and evaluate music as well as compare and contrast music. Student will also be composing and arranging music on grade level.
This year, our Sixth through Eighth Grade students will enjoy one of two general music courses, "The History of Rock and Roll" led by Ashley King and "World Music" led by Stephanie Lewis. Students will be encouraged to expand their knowledge and understanding of music as it relates to culture and history.
Students in the C.A.N After-School Network recently learned about African Hand Drumming during a music enrichment class led by Karen Weathers.

Shannon Forest After School Band Program
Shannon Forest Christian School has expanded its After School Music Lesson Program to include the organization of the After School Band Program. The program will be directed by Gina League, seasoned music educator. SFCS is also extending a special welcome to the Greenville Home School Community! The focus will initially be on brass and woodwind and percussion instrument instruction, but with the over 50 private students already enrolled at the Shannon After School Music Lessons Program, expansion to other instruments is certain to follow.
Shannon Forest believes in the value instrumental music has on the total education of a child. As Christians and Music educators, we also strive to focus on the spiritual aspect of Music as a medium of praise and worship to our God.
"The trumpeters and musicians joined in unison to give praise and thanks to the LORD."
