SFCS Middle School Golf Team Focuses On Fundamentals
March 8, 2010 - The 2010 Shannon Forest Christian School (SFCS) Middle School Golf season's primary objective will be to continue to help the student, whether they are a beginner or a seasoned veteran, develop their golfing skills. The Crusaders will learn new techniques and drills that will enhance their ability to be a successful player. "We emphasize practice organization, drills, and other fundamentals and our goal is not to turn these students into professionals, but to give them the tools for success that will make the game of golf more enjoyable," said SFCS Coach Randy Hornsby. "Golf is a simple game. There is no need to make it complicated. Yet, there are a lot of "little things" that need to be worked on even if they are blessed with talent. These "little things" though, may make average participants into exceptional players as they progress through high school and into college. Fundamentally sound players are usually winners."
In this short, basically two-month long season, SFCS will have many practice sessions scheduled at the driving range and on the course. "At the Middle School level, what is needed most is simply making contact with the ball and seeing the results, over and over and over," continued Hornsby. The season will include 7 competitive golf matches, with each one an opportunity for personal growth as well as team building and school pride.
"I look forward to a fantastic season with these guys and hope that the lessons learned this year will continue to be used in their personal practice time throughout the year, making them better and more competitive players in the years to come. Again, all of this is done with one underlying emphasis: TO MAKE THE GAME FUN!"
