2003 – 2004
Booster Club Has Banner Year!
HEADLINE STORY
Monday, April 13, 2004
I
would like to start by thanking all of the wonderful
parent volunteers that have done so much to make this
a banner year, not only for the Booster Club, but also
for the student athletes. I would like to thank Kim
Miller - without her help my job would have been impossible.
Kim was my right arm when it came to Concessions and
the Magazine Drive. Our SFCS Sports Banquets would
not have been possible without the assistance of Brenda
Weekley and Kim Carter. This was the first year for
our Booster Club tailgate cookouts and we owe it all
to Kip Miller and Ed Murphy for making them a huge
success! Alvin Sell performed a great job keeping the
books and a very special thank you goes to Laura Sage
who served as our secretary. As many of you know the
Sage family will be moving to Virginia Beach sometime
after the school year. They will be in our prayers
and sorely missed. I also want to thank Molly Scott,
Angelika Hartmann, Nancy Funk, Jane Cashin and Melanie
Boccio for their help in organizing concessions. A
thank you also goes out to Peg Smith who spearheaded
our very successful membership drive.
The following
is a wonderful testimony of what the Booster Club has
accomplished this year:
- Over 80 families joined
the Booster Club this year, including 12 life-time
members. This is the best membership drive the Booster
Club has experienced since its formation.
- The
Booster Club held its first tailgate parties. This
gathering was such a huge success at Grandparents
Day, that we continued them at two home basketball
games.
The hope is that these cookouts will become regular
events.
- The Booster Club Magazine Drive was
the best in SFCS history and should net about $8000!
The
Athletic Programs at SFCS have benefited from the
Booster Club in many ways:
- Crusader chairs
for our athletes and coaches were purchased for
use at all home games. The chairs added a touch of
class
to our Athletics Program. The cost was $3600.
- The
Booster Club purchased “ Sport Bags,” filled
with equipment for each Lower School teacher for
use during recess. The cost was $700.
- New soccer
goals were purchased – a much needed necessity.
The cost was $2000.
- The Booster Club contributed
funds toward the purchase of a new sound system
that is currently used for the Drama Club and home
Athletic
Events. The cost was $300.
- The Booster Club
funded all SFCS Athletic Banquets and purchased
the much appreciated trophies awarded at the events.
The
cost was $1000.
- The Booster Club assists each
coach with the purchase of equipment or other needed
items for their teams. The total funding of these
needs is $4000.
- A new outfield fence for our SFCS
Baseball Team is soon to arrive! This can also
be used during all home soccer games. The total cost
is $3800.
- SFCS
now has a sports trainer who is present at all
Varsity home games. The cost is $1500.
- A contribution
was made to the SFCS Homecoming event to help with
the purchase of flowers and other items that made
this a special night. The cost was $500.
- For all
the teams that advance to state tournaments, the
Booster Club will pay all travel expenses!
- The story
of the Mauldin basketball player who collapsed
and was revived using defibrillators made all of
the local
news. The Booster Club has recently purchased two
of these units, which will be available in both the
Lower & Upper
Schools. Athletic Director Rita Harrell is making arrangements
for the training and use of this equipment and CPR
classes that will enable our school to be prepared
in the event of such a crisis. The cost is $4800.
To
date, the support of the SFCS Athletic Department
exceeds $22,000. There are still other projects
we are considering
and WITH YOUR CONTINUTED SUPPORT we can add to
this list! Last but not least, many thanks go to
Athletic
Director, Rita Harrell and Assistant Athletic
Director, David Thompson for all of their hard work
and dedication.
This has been an incredible year for SFCS Athletic
Programs. We are very proud of our athletes,
coaches, parents and administration for this banner
year!
Let’s
do it again in 2004- 2005! John Schwendler,
SFCS Booster
Club President
