When Upper School
students walk into the new SFCS Science lab next fall,
they will be entering a whole
new world of exploration. Thanks to the generous donation
from Suzanne Hudson, the grandmother of Sterling and
Earl DeLapp, remodeling on a state-of-the-art Science
laboratory will begin at the conclusion of this school
year. The new facility will include work stations that
house sinks, faucets, gas and electrical outlets and
comfortable, cushioned chairs. Students will also be
able to bring their studies into focus with the ten,
new Monocular/Tungsten microscopes.
SFCS Science teacher,
Susan Cooper is looking forward to the advances the
new lab will provide to next year’s program. “With
the donation of the new lab equipment, Science can
now be taught experimentally and not just through word,” said
Cooper. “We will have the ability to immediately
observe and investigate because we will have the materials
we need right at our finger tips. Science will be more
hands on and the students will definitely benefit from
this.” Hudson has been a long-time supporter
of SFCS and is thrilled to be able to give back to
the school which she feels has been a blessing to her
family. “I am thankful for the opportunity to
provide this new laboratory. Shannon Forest Christian
School has meant so much to my grandchildren,” said
Hudson. The current Upper School Biology lab will be
relocated to facilitate the remodeling of the new laboratory.
Structural work will take place during the summer and
will be completed prior to the beginning of the 2004-2005
school year. Cooper added, “Students who graduate
from SFCS will have an advantage because they will
be accustomed to using lab equipment they will see
in college. The sky is the limit in Science at SFCS!”
Artful Articles Draper Awarded Congressional Art Award!

SFCS freshman, Angela Draper
proudly displays her award with Art
teacher, Mark Mulfinger. |
SFCS freshman Art student, Angela Draper has been
awarded the prestigious Congressional Art Award. The
beautiful award is signed by our Congressman, Jim DeMint.
Draper was one of four finalists in the 23rd annual,
nationwide competition launched by Members of Congress
to showcase the artistic talents of students in our
district. Draper received second place in the competition.
Her teacher, Mr. Mark Mulfinger says that, “She
was just one place away from being awarded the grand
prize – the ability to exhibit her work in Washington
D.C. and thousands in scholarship money. For a freshman
to place this high in a United States Congressional,
District-wide contest is cause to take notice”.
Mulfinger continued to say that “ Angela Draper
combines her enormous talent with a great desire to
do superior work and then seals it with the rarest
of all attributes…diligence. She is one of my
hardest working students and this quality will, in
time, propel her to the top.”
