The SFCS Cross Country team raced their
way to several “firsts” for our school
in the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic
Association (NCISAA) held on Friday, October 29, in
Cary, North Carolina. Our Crusaders were ready to take
on the challenge of overcoming the number one seeded
Cresset Christian to take home the first Cross Country
State Championship for SFCS and the first-ever State
Championship for our school! The team enjoyed a successful
season, going into the championships in the number
two position. Five out of the seven runners on the
boys’ team brought home winning scores; Joe Sell
in 1st place, Adam Groblewski - 2nd place, Adam Pitts
in 6th place, Paul Carter took 9th place and Andrew
Holmes brought home a 10th place finish.
Total scores
were:
SFCS 28
Cresset Christian 45
Rocky Mount Academy

their best in a race that included 149 runners. Casey
Earnest finished in 55th place with a time of 23:35,

SFCS Varsity Volleyball Success Story Spells 3rd In
State!
The 2004-2005 Varsity Volleyball season will
go down in SFCS history as a great success story. Our
Lady Crusaders battled their way from obscurity to
proudly hold the 3rd Place title in the North Carolina
Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA) State
Championships! The entire season was an experience
our team will never forget – full of competitive
players and challenging games. The Crusaders won the
first quarter-final game on Friday, October 29, against
Trinity Academy with scores of 25:21, 23:25, 25:17
and 25:18. Highlights included Katie Thackston with
6 service aces and 13 kills, Kayla O’Kelley with
12 kills, Savannah Boccio completing 26 assists and
Katherine Carter at the net with 6 blocks.
The semi
final game proved to be a tough challenge for the Lady
Crusaders as the faced Albemarle Christian in a game
that did not show their best effort. Though the team
stayed in the action, they just couldn’t gain
a lead and SFCS lost the close match 19:25, 21:25 and
20:25. Kayla O’Kelley led the team with 10 kills,
10 digs and 4 service aces. Her incredible performance
earned her a spot on the All-State team.
The year-end
stats spell out this team’s spirited success
story:
Kayla O’Kelley 82 service aces, 112 service
points & 183 kills
