The SFCS Cross Country team raced their way to several “firsts” for our school in the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA) held on Friday, October 29, in Cary, North Carolina. Our Crusaders were ready to take on the challenge of overcoming the number one seeded Cresset Christian to take home the first Cross Country State Championship for SFCS and the first-ever State Championship for our school! The team enjoyed a successful season, going into the championships in the number two position. Five out of the seven runners on the boys’ team brought home winning scores; Joe Sell in 1st place, Adam Groblewski - 2nd place, Adam Pitts in 6th place, Paul Carter took 9th place and Andrew Holmes brought home a 10th place finish.

Total scores were:
SFCS 28
Cresset Christian 45

Flora MacDonald 119

The top five runners from SFCS were awarded championship pins and all-state awards. These honors went to; Joe Sell with a time of 18:08, Adam Groblewski with 18:19, Adam Pitts running 18:50, Paul Carter with 19:34 and Andrew Holmes with a time of 19:41.

Additional highlights included Robert Hawthorne’s 11th place finish with a time of 19:45 and Jim Palmer in 20th place with a time of 21:10. Our Crusader girls were at a slight disadvantage as the competition combined the 1A and 2A teams for the race. Several team members showed their best in a race that included 149 runners. Casey Earnest finished in 55th place with a time of 23:35, Mary Mills took 75th place with 24:25 and Kari Sell came in close behind in 79th place with a time of 24:31. Congratulations to all of our Crusader runners for a winning season and for achieving an incredible mark in SFCS history!

SFCS Varsity Volleyball Success Story Spells 3rd In State!

The 2004-2005 Varsity Volleyball season will go down in SFCS history as a great success story. Our Lady Crusaders battled their way from obscurity to proudly hold the 3rd Place title in the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA) State Championships! The entire season was an experience our team will never forget – full of competitive players and challenging games. The Crusaders won the first quarter-final game on Friday, October 29, against Trinity Academy with scores of 25:21, 23:25, 25:17 and 25:18. Highlights included Katie Thackston with 6 service aces and 13 kills, Kayla O’Kelley with 12 kills, Savannah Boccio completing 26 assists and Katherine Carter at the net with 6 blocks.

The semi final game proved to be a tough challenge for the Lady Crusaders as the faced Albemarle Christian in a game that did not show their best effort. Though the team stayed in the action, they just couldn’t gain a lead and SFCS lost the close match 19:25, 21:25 and 20:25. Kayla O’Kelley led the team with 10 kills, 10 digs and 4 service aces. Her incredible performance earned her a spot on the All-State team.
