David Jacobs First SFCS National Merit Scholar

SFCS
senior David Jacobs has been awarded the National
Merit Scholarship. He is one of 2500 recipients to
receive this distinguished honor and the first SFCS
student on record. Jacobs is also the proud recipient
of the Rotary Club of Greenville scholarship award. Approximately one-hundred students from the Greenville area applied for this scholarship and only seven were awarded. Jacobs is the son of Kerry and Candy Jacobs and will be attending Clemson University in the fall. Congratulations, David!
SFCS Welcomes New & Veteran
Faculty For The Coming Year!
SFCS is pleased to welcome several new and veteran faculty members to our family for the 2005-2006 school year. It seems that good things always return and we are blessed to welcome the talent and nurturing staff that will be a part of our family next year. Kathy Neely will be assuming the position of Lower School Principal. Neely has been an intricate part of Christian education since 1994. She was most recently Elementary Principal at Eden Christian Academy in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Neely holds a Masters in Educational Leadership from Regent University. Jan Samuelson, a SFCS veteran, will return to teach 1st Grade for the upcoming year! Samuelson taught at SFCS from 1993-1994 through the 2000- 2001 school year. We are thrilled to welcome her back to the SFCS family! Jane Sowles, also a veteran SFCS teacher, will return in the fall to join our 4th Grade Program. Sowles brings with her 19 years of classroom teaching experience. She taught at SFCS from the 1990-1991 school year through the 2000-2001 school year. Welcome back, Jane! Terry Tate will join the SFCS faculty to teach Latin and English for the upcoming year. Tate most recently held the positions of teacher at the afterschool tutoring ministry of CenterQuest in Greer, South Carolina. Tate holds a Masters of Education from Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland and brings to our family 31 years of classroom and homeschool experience. Welcome, Terry!

Seven SFCS Upper School Art students recently participated in the 23rd Annual Congressional Art Competition. Seniors Richard Padgett and Tommy Schwendler; juniors Susannah Ballinger, Simon Bock and Katherine Carter and freshmen Vanessa Hartmann and Cara Jenkinson all submitted artwork completed during art classes. Their pieces were on display at Greenville Technical's McAlister Square from Friday, April 29, through Monday, May 2. Congressman Bob Inglis hosted a reception on Monday, May 2, where the artists were honored.
SFCS Spring Art Show
In celebration of the arts, SFCS will host a Spring Art Show on Friday, May 13, after school hours or during the intermission of The Mousetrap, and Saturday, May 14, during the intermission of the Spring Drama. The show will include works from Teresa Hoover's 8th through 12th Grade Art classes and Susan Bellew's Upper School Photography class. The display will be placed in the SFCS Upper School Cafeteria.
Spend Summer With The Arts
All current 1st - 8th Grade SFCS students are invited to attend EXPLORE the ARTS summer program. This fabulous day camp offers classes in visual and performing arts. The elementary program, held at Blythe Academy, offers dance, drama, music and visual arts. The Middle School Program, held at The Fine Arts Center, features guitar, drums, strings, photography, drawing and painting, sculpture, ceramics, dance, drama, film and video and creative writing. The program is offered Monday, June 13, - Thursday, June 16, and Monday, June 20, - Thursday, June 23.
