3rd Grade to Re-live History
LOWER SCHOOL NEWS
Monday, November 10, 2003
SFCS 3rd Grade students will “travel
back in time” during an upcoming field trip to
Walnut Grove Plantation on Thursday, November 13, from
8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Students will enjoy watching
the 1700s come alive as part of their study of the beloved
book, Sarah, Plain and Tall. A special living history
activity will include candle-making.
Festivities will continue on Tuesday, November 18,
when 3rd Grade classes will enjoy Pioneer Day! Students
will dress as pioneers and enjoy games, crafts, food
and fun. A pioneer feast will include “Opossum
Stew”, corn muffins with our own home- “churned”
butter and molasses cookies! Students will also be “sewing”
a patchwork quilt as one of the many crafts they will
enjoy.
Missionary Mercy Project

2nd Grade students enjoy a
celebration of God's blessings. |
Mrs. Eaton’s and Mrs. Maund’s 2nd Grade
students worked at home and in their neighborhoods to
raise $300 in support of two children in Ethiopia. The
children support a little girl and a little boy at the
Addis Abab Mercy Center. The money they raised supplies
books, school uniforms and a meal a day at the Center
School. The classes have received a report card and
picture from the boy and will be receiving the same
from the girl. The classes plan to write them and send
photos of themselves. In celebration of God blessing
the wonderful efforts of our SFCS students, they were
treated to an ice cream party.
Use Your Paper Wisely - The 4th Grade Will Be Watching
The SFCS 4th Grade has been studying the environment
in Science class. Topics have included the effects
of erosion
on different landforms, our natural resources and taking
care of our environment. As a culminating activity,
the
students will be collecting paper from all the classrooms
in the 200 Building on a weekly basis. The paper
will
be recycled. Each week the students will weigh the
paper and measure how high it stacks up. Each classroom’s
findings will be graphed. At the end of the school
year,
students will publish their findings. It will be great
to see how these students will be able to make a
difference
in the use of our resources through their efforts.
