Summer At Shannon Seaside Spots Are Going Fast!

The theme for this year's Summer At Shannon is a funfilled, sunny ocean/beach adventure called Seaside With The Savior! The adventure begins on Monday, June 6, with sessions running through Friday, July 29. In addition to learning Bible lessons aimed at developing Christian character, participants will have the opportunity to be involved in music, art and cooking classes! Space is
limited so register today! Summer At Shannon is available for SFCS students entering PK3 through the 6th Grade. You may chose from full or half-day programs. Registration forms are available in both the Lower and Middle School Offices and must be turned into Grae Turner in the SFCS Early Childhood Office. You will receive a follow-up letter confirming your child's enrollment.

*All PK3 through K5 Summer At Shannon classes have only 2 spots left!

*1st through 2nd Grade classes have only 4 openings available!

*There are only 5 spots for participants in 3rd through 6th Grade.

SFCS Veteran Returns To Teach 1st Grade For 2005-2006!

Acting Head of School Brenda Hillman is thrilled to announce the return
of Jan Samuelson to the faculty of the SFCS Lower School. Samuelson
will be returning to teach 1st Grade with Molly Spurgeon. 'Jan is the
consummate professional and promotes curricular excellence in an
extremely nurturing, yet productive environment,' said Hillman. 'The
strength of our 1st Grade team will be outstanding.' Samuelson taught at
SFCS from the 1993/1994 school year through the 2000/2001 school
year. Welcome back, Jan!

Lower School Spiritual Emphasis Week

Monday, May 2, through Friday, May 6, is Lower School Spiritual
Emphasis Week at SFCS. The theme for the week will be; Big Questions
about Prayer. Students in PK3 through 5th Grade will learn how
Abraham, Moses, Daniel, David, Elijah, Peter and Paul exercised their faith
through prayer. SFCS Board Member Sheryl Farquhar will be on hand
each morning to lead the students in songs related to our theme of prayer.
Worship will take place each morning from 8:40 a.m. to 9:10 a.m. in the
SFPC Sanctuary. Parents are welcomed to join us!

SFCS 2nd Grade To Hold International Festival

Students in the 2nd Grade classes at SFCS have been studying the
diverse nationalities of their families and they will celebrate these
cultures in a festival to be held on Friday, May 13, beginning at lunch
time (approximately 12 noon) in the SFPC Gymnasium. Students,
parents and grandparents will enjoy food from numerous nationalities, a
festive musical performance and they will be able to study posters
and displays that were created based on the students' heritage.

Mrs. Patterson's K5 Class Hits The Beach!

Debbie Patterson's K5 class recently enjoyed a day at the beach without ever leaving their classroom! To celebrate all they learned about their study of oceans, students held a beach party, complete with sand castle building,
playing beach ball phonics and math games and enjoying a feast of the
perfect beach meal - hotdogs!

PK3 & PK4 Honor Mothers In A Special Way

The PK3 and PK4 classes will be holding a special Mother's Day Tea on Friday, May 6, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Not much more may be said as this event holds special treats and surprises for some wonderful mothers!

IMPORTANT: Current K5 And Prospective 1st Grade Parent Meeting Scheduled!

Parents of all current K5 and prospective 1st grade families for the 2005-2006 school year are urged to attend an important meeting to cover the exciting
activities that await our rising 2005-2006, 1st Grade students. The meeting will be held in the Lower School Building, Lower Level Meeting Rooms, A & B, on Tuesday, May 10, from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Please make every effort to attend.

SFCS God's Kids Choir Achieves Excellent Rating

The SFCS God's Kids Choir, under the direction of Karen Waddell,
recently earned a rating of excellent at the Carowinds Music Festival
Choir Competition held in Charlotte, North Carolina. Participants
performed America Of Thee I Sing, by Donnelly and Strid and Swing
Low, Sweet Chariot, by Cox. In addition to their award-winning choral
performance, students also enjoyed a fun-filled day at the amusement
park!

SFCS Middle School Students Excel in Speech Competition

A group of SFCS Middle School Grade students recently traveled to Columbia to participate in the South Carolina Speech and Communication Association (SCSCA). After many hours of preparation and practice, two students came home with trophies. 7th Grade student Kyle Cronin won 1st Place in the Storytelling Division and 6th Grade student Kristin Williams took 2nd Place in the Original Oratory Division.

4th & 5th Grade Musical Was STOMPIN'!

The 4th and 5th Grade classes of SFCS recently entertained a captive
audience on Thursday, April 28, with a performance of Joseph, From
the Pit to the Palace. The unique musical incorporated STOMP music
- a high energy, fun-filled musical form that includes the beating of pots,
pans and trash cans.
