SFCS K5 – 5th Grade Students BOOK IT to Reading Success!

LOWER SCHOOL NEWS
Friday, September 10, 2004

When students open books, they open a world of knowledge, ideas and dreams. That’s the motivation behind the 2004- 2005 National Reading Incentive Program called “BOOK IT!” All K5 through 5th Grade students will be able to participate in this program that motivates students to read. Each grade level will set their own reading goals and progress will be recorded by individual classroom teachers. Students will be challenged to read a certain number of pages or books per month. Upon meeting that goal, each student will receive a certificate for a free, one-topping Personal Pan Pizza from Pizza Hut! Readers will also receive a BOOK IT! card and clip at their Pizza Hut visit. After meeting six months of BOOK IT! goals, each reader will receive the BOOK IT! All-Star Reader medallion. Who doesn’t love reading? Who doesn’t love pizza? What are you waiting for…Let’s BOOK IT!

PK4 Students Bring A Study of Hispanic Heritage to Life

Hispanic Heritage Month has been the recent basis for a study in the SFCS PK4 classes and on Friday, September 17, that study came to life! The students enjoyed a special guest from Panama who demonstrated a Hispanic dance in full costume. The guest is better known as “Aunt Judy” to SFCS PK4 student Heddy McGrey. Heddy’s brother Ben, also attends SFCS and is the 2nd Grade. SFCS Teacher, Cheri Sanders’ class topped off the event by making quesadillas.
