Additional SEEDS Training News
LOWER SCHOOL NEWS
Friday, October 15, 2004
This year, SFCS Lower
School students will be experiencing the exciting SEEDS
Program, which enhances a child’s critical thinking
skills, research skills, productive thinking skills
and love of literature. This program is brought into
the classrooms through parent volunteers. To be one
of these volunteers, you are required to attend a training
session conducted by SEEDS creator, Dr. Mildred Young.
In order to schedule an additional training session,
we would like interested parents to contact your child’s
teacher and let them know which of the following times
would best suit your schedules. 8:30 a.m. – 10:00
a.m. or 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. After tallying the results,
a session will be
scheduled on a specific day.
SFCS Kindergarten Goes On Safari!

Andrea Godsey's K5 Class |
The SFCS Kindergarten
class of Andrea Godsey went “ape” during
their recent study of jungle animals. In addition to
studying animals, the students read Where the Wild
Things Are and grew a jungle inside the classroom! “It
became bigger each day until it grew out the door!,” said
Godsey. As a culmination to the unit, several fun activities
were planned. First, “the animals” escaped
and the students had to go find them on a Safari. Students
wore safari hats and searched with binoculars.

The SFCS Kindergarten class of Debbie Patterson recently
completed a unit study of jungle animals and Noah’s
Ark. The children enjoyed several crosscurriculum activities
including making animal masks, entering Noah’s
Ark two-by-two and eating a “ jungle feast” of
ants (raisins), straw (cereal), and bananas dipped
in mud (chocolate syrup).
