SFCS Makes Important Changes In Parent/Teacher Communications System

ALL SCHOOL NEWS
Friday, September 3, 2004

To insure the most effective means of teachers and parents communicating, “Schoolnotes.com” will be utilized to post announcements to SFCS students and parents. Through this method, parents of Upper and Middle School students will also have a direct link to teachers email that will take the place of voice mail. To contact a teacher, please go to the SFCS website www.shannonforest.com and click on the item “Staff” under “Contact Us” in the main menu bar. Here, you will find a link to “Schoolnotes.com.” After typing in the school zip code (29615), you will find SFCS teachers’ names listed in alphabetical order. Parents needing to contact any Lower School teacher, in PK through the 5th Grade, may still use the voice mail system, however if parents need to follow-up on any homework information, they must utilize www.schoolnotes.com. Messages called in to the school offices will be written down and put in the teachers’ boxes. Teachers generally check their boxes in the mornings and the afternoons.

Remember Patriot Day

September 11, 2001, is a date that will be forever remembered because of the bombings of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the crash of Flight 93. The people of our nation were stunned and enraged by the tragedy, then determined to punish those responsible. In all, approximately 3,000 people lost their lives. Most were Americans, but people from about 60 other countries also perished. In memory of those who died, and the heroes who tried to save them, President George W. Bush has designated Sunday, September 11, as Patriot Day. The observance was signed into public record on December 18, 2001. Flags at public buildings and businesses will fly at half-staff on that day and people are urged to observe a moment of silence. On September 11, we also remember the survivors of the attacks and those who lost family members, friends and co-workers. Newly Printed SFCS T-Shirts Are Here! The newly printed SFCS t-shirts have arrived to replace those shirts that were printed incorrectly. Lower School shirts will be sent home with students on Tuesday, September 7. Upper School shirts were distributed during the lunch hour on Friday, September 3. We would greatly appreciate all efforts to return the misprinted shirts to either the Lower or Upper School Offices or to individual classrooms upon receipt of the new t-shirts. Thank you so much for your patience and cooperation and our apologies for the error.

SCRIP Is Back and You Can Save On Your Tuition

The SCRIP Program will not keep your children from losing their coats, backpacks or books, but it will lower your tuition! This program allows SFCS families to purchase gift certificates for groceries, gas stations, department stores and more with a portion of your investment going toward your tuition. Order forms are available in both the Lower and Upper School Offices. You may also place orders via email by sending your request to mcollom@bellsouth.net. Karin Collom will be our SCRIP representative for the year. Please feel free to contact her if you have any questions at 862.9570.

SFCS Welcomes New Teacher, Larry Clark

Larry Clark

The word ‘ experience’ hardly describes what new SFCS teacher, Larry Clark has to share with our Upper School students. Clark is a seasoned educator with 35 years of ‘ experiences’ in teaching, coaching and as an administrator. You will find Clark and his students digging deep into the fascinating subjects of Human Anatomy, Biology, Life Science and Physical Science. Clark holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Mars Hill College and Masters of Education from Clemson University. His wife Martha is a nurse practitioner. They have two, married sons and three grandchildren. When he’s not in the classroom, Clark loves to play golf, jog and work in his yard.
