Holly Miller brings Science research into focus |
On Friday, September 24, SFCS will dedicate its wonderful,
new Science Laboratory (Room 106) with a ribbon-cutting
ceremony from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The ceremony will
honor the generous contribution of Suzanne Hudson,
grandmother of Sterling and Earl DeLapp. Through her
donation, a whole new world of Science exploration
has been made available to our students. “The
addition of the Science Lab in the 100 Building has
opened up the opportunity for multiple sections of
science,” says Upper School Administrator Brenda
Hillman. “We now have over sixty students enrolled
in Chemistry this year as opposed to less then ten
last year. The new facility has given us more flexibility
to schedule Science classes which require labs,” added
Hillman. The result of this new scheduling opportunity
has allowed more students fit science into their schedule.
The state-of-the-art laboratory includes work stations
that house sinks, faucets, gas and electrical outlets
and comfortable, cushioned chairs. Students can also
bring their studies into focus with ten, new Monocular/Tungsten
microscopes. SFCS Science teacher, Susan Cooper is
thrilled with the new addition. “Science can
now be taught experimentally and not just through word,” says
Cooper. “Students will definitely benefit from
a more hands on method of learning,” she added.
Hudson has been a long-time supporter of SFCS and
feels blessed to be able to give back to the school. “I
am thankful for the opportunity to provide this new
laboratory to a school that has meant so much to my
grandchildren,” says Hudson. Our very special
thanks goes out to Mrs. Hudson and her family for taking
Science to a whole new level of excellence at SFCS. “This
addition is another step toward enhancing the effectiveness
of the Science curriculum and the educational experience
of our students,” added Hillman.
