Grandparents’ & Special
Friends’ Day Is Coming!
ALL SCHOOL NEWS
Friday, September 24, 2004
You don’t want to miss SFCS’ annual
event honoring grandparents and special friends! The
festivities will take place on Friday, October 15,
and will include a special program from our PK3 students.
Students in 2nd through 5th Grades will also perform
music selections including “Be Our Guest” and “Swinging
on a Star.” A detailed brochure, outlining the
day’s schedule, will be arriving soon via the
Lower School, green Monday folders. All grandparents
who are currently on file have already received a brochure
inviting them to attend the event. Additional copies
of the invitation are available in the Lower and Upper
School Offices, the lobby of Shannon Forest Presbyterian
Church and on the school website at www.shannonforest.com.
Stay tuned for more information
on this special day!
Calling All Chefs… AND Those Who LOVE Good Food!
The Crusader Cuisine Cookbook wants your favorite
recipes! SFCS is putting together a cookbook of wonderful
recipes
to sell to friends, neighbors, co-workers and family.
This book, filled with delicious meal ideas, appetizers,
salads and more, will be ready just in time to send
as a Christmas gift. All proceeds will benefit the
2005 summer mission trip to the Barrier Islands. A
good cookbook needs great recipes, so send in as many
entries as you would like! We’d also like to
include photos or memories from past summer mission
trips in the cookbook. To submit a recipe or recipes,
just complete the form on page 7 of this newsletter.
All recipe submission forms must be turned into Gina
Powell in the Main School Office by Friday, October
15. If you have any questions, please contact Peg Smith
at 292.6889 or on cell at 380.6798. You may also email
Peg at beapeg@aol.com or you may call Angelika Hartmann
at 675.9469 or on cell at 354.0348. Thank you in advance
for your support!
In Loving Memory

Pictured from left to right: Marguerite Demarse, Joann
Brugger and Lynette Stackhouse donated a beautiful
stone bench in memory of former SFCS teacher Rose Van
Someren. |
In the midst of the hustle and bustle
of students, parents and faculty coming and going
from the Main Office Building of Shannon Forest Christian
School, one may not notice the beautiful, stone bench
nestled under the shade of the trees. As lovely and
peaceful as the woman whose memory it celebrates,
the
late Rose Van Someren, the bench is a wonderful addition
to our campus. It was donated by Marguerite Demarse,
Joann Brugger and Lynette Stackhouse, friends of
Van Someren, who knew of her love for the school.
SFCS Welcomes Teresa Hoover!

Teresa Hoover with students |
For new SFCS teacher,
Teresa Hoover, art comes in many forms…visual
AND tasty! Hoover teaches Art to all students in 4th
through 12th Grades. However, students in 6th and 7th
Grades are enjoying her culinary skills in their Home
Living class. Hoover holds a BA degree in Art and Education
from Furman University. She has also fine-tuned her
baking and cooking skills while attending Johnson and
Wales University where she received an AA in Culinary
Arts. This is Hoover’s first year teaching full
time. In the past, she has substituted in the Greenville
County School District and taught cooking classes to
both children and adults. Hoover’s husband of
nine months, Joe works as a Project Manager for a Greenville
residential builder. Her hobbies include cooking and
baking, working on home improvement projects, reading
and singing.
Single Parent & Blended Family Group Addresses

is open to anyone from the Shannon Forest family. The

issues from a Biblical perspective. Childcare will
be provided and grade school children can participate
in the Wednesday night Round-Up children’s activities
if they desire. Please contact Dean and Kathy Habrun
at 297.8276 or Dodd and Joy Davis at 675.0810 if you
have any questions.
