Duke University Talent Identification Program Identifies SFCS Student Qualifiers

ALL SCHOOL NEWS
Friday, October 7th, 2005

Twenty-three SFCS students have qualified for the Duke University Talent
Identification Program (TIP) 7th Grade Talent Search. These students
represent 58% of the entire 7th Grade class at SFCS. This program allows
7th Grade students who are academically talented based on standardized test
scores to take either the SAT or ACT. These tests are the same ones that
juniors and seniors take to get into college. Benefits of the Duke TIP include
the experience of taking an above-level test, educational opportunities such as
summer programs, resources for college preparation and a recognition
ceremony for higher scoring students. The students from SFCS who have
been selected to participate
in Duke TIP are:
Chelsea Allen, Blake Allen, Connell Anderson, Douglas Calder, Charl Coester,
Kasey Ensign, Adam Favors, Callie Floyd, Drew Fraley, Tyler Goewey,

Laura Gordon, Katie Harrell, Peter Heitman, Jonathan Jacobs, Joseph Jacobs,
Courtney Overby, Dexter Reini, Thomas Spurgeon, Brittany Troka,
Brian Van Dyke, Matthew West, Shelley Whiting, Jared Young

Don't Forget Your SFCS Directories!

All Middle and Upper School families may pick up their 2005- 2006 Directories in the Upper School or Main School Offices. Directories were sent home to the
youngest child in PK3 through 5th Grades last week. We ask that you pick up one per family, please.

Grandparents' Day

A detailed brochure outlining the special events of SFCS Grandparents'
Day to be held on Friday, October 14, has been sent home to Lower
School students via the green information folders. All grandparents who
are currently on file with the school have also been mailed a brochure
inviting them to attend the event. If you would like to pick up any extra
invitations or if your Grandparents are not listed with the school, additional
brochures are available in the Lower and Main School Offices.

Grandparents' Day Volunteers Needed

The Grandparents' Day PTF committee is still in need of five servers to
work one hour shifts on the day of the event and 20-25 volunteers to
prepare a baked good item. If you would be willing to fulfill one these
needs, please contact Renee Bain at 233-5813 or by e-mail at
fhbain@aol.com.
