SFCS Art Lovers Travel to Atlanta
SFCS Upper School art lovers traveled to Atlanta on
Wednesday, November 3, to experience the High Museum
of Art in downtown Atlanta. The group enjoyed a special
exhibition called “Van Gogh to Mondrian.” The
84 pieces in the show were from the Kroller-Muller
Museum in the Netherlands; they included masterpieces
by Van Gogh, Seurat, Picasso, Mondrian and several
others. What an experience to see original Van Gogh
paintings! Original paintings, unlike reproductions,
allow one to see texture, size, intricate details and
true color. Students were also able to tour the museum’s
permanent collection, which includes a variety of paintings,
sculpture, furniture and artifacts. The trip ended
with lunch at the landmark restaurant, The Varsity.
All enjoyed greasy hamburgers, fries and onion rings
along with Frosted Oranges and red Varsity hats!
