SFCS Inclement Weather Procedures

ALL SCHOOL NEWS

It’s that time of year again. Our weather forecasts may include ice and snow, to every child’s delight! If inclement weather delays or closes SFCS, announcements will be made on the following television stations: WYFF-TV 4, WLOS-TV 13, and WSPA-TV 7. Information will also be broadcast on the following radio stations: WLFJ-FM 89.3, WFBC 93.7, WESC-FM 92.5, WMYI-FM 102.5, and WSPA-FM 98.9. Families may also check www.shannonforest.com for information. Remember, SFCS does NOT follow the Greenville County Public School schedule! In the event of a one-hour delay students should report at 9:10 a.m. In the case of a two-hour delay, classes will begin at 10:10 a.m.

If we experience a two-hour delay in starting school, remember to bring a lunch! Students will NOT be able to order vendor food. Daily items like hot dogs, corn dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, etc. will still be available.

Important 2005-2006 Informational Meetings

Parents are encouraged to attend the informational meetings listed below:

Monday, January 24: Parents of current 5th & 6th Grade students
Monday, January 31: Parents of current 10th & 11th Grade students

Acting Head of School, Brenda Hillman will cover plans for the 2005-2006 school year. All meetings will be held at 7:30 p.m. on the Lower School Campus, Bldg. 300, Room 103 B.

2005 Homecoming Representatives Crowned

Senior Brooke Murphy was crowned 2005 Homecoming Queen during the SFCS festivities held on Friday, January 14. Murphy is a member of the National Honor Society, SFCS Key Club, Student Council, Shannon Forest Presbyterian Church Youth Group Leadership Team and is featured in Who’s Who Among High School Students. She also plays on the SFCS Varsity Volleyball team. Murphy was escorted by her brother, SFCS junior, Joshua Murphy. Class representatives selected from the court included:

The SFCS Magazine Sale…

Subscribe to your favorites and benefit SFCS!
It’s that time of year again, when enjoying your favorite magazines can benefit our school! You should have received your Magazine Sale packets at home. The cover letter clearly explains the incentive prizes, classroom prizes and cumulative prize awards.

Monday, January 24, is MagNet Day and the 1st Turn-in -Candy Day! All students that turn in a completed MagNet Book during the sale will win a Mini Lunch Bag. All booklets turned in on this day will also be eligible for a boat load of prizes! Students will also win one candy bar for every order turned in on this date. Students may pick up their candy bars at lunch on Wednesday, January 26.

Friday, January 28, is the 2nd Turn-in Day - Money Wheel Day! Turn in FOUR orders on this date and spin the money wheel to win a cash amount from $1.00 to $40.00. Students will win one spin for every FOUR orders turned in by this date. Students in K5 – 3rd Grades will spin the wheel during lunch on Monday, January 31. Students in 4th – 12th Grades will spin for cash on Tuesday, February 1.

Tuesday, February 1, is the 3rd Turn-in Day – Cash Box Day! Students turning in THREE orders on this date will pull a “Q” coin from the cash box. Each coin is worth a cash amount from $1.00 to $50.00. Students will pull their “ Q” coins, one for every three orders, on Thursday, February 3.

Traveling Ziggy Dog
The homeroom that turns in the most money on each turn-in day will claim the Traveling Ziggy Dog. At the end of the sale, the homeroom that has turned in the most money (average per student) will win the dog. All participating students in the top homeroom will win a baby Ziggy. One baby Ziggy will be marked and that student will take home the traveling Ziggy Dog.

Teacher Incentive
Any teacher whose homeroom has 60% participation or more will win 15 seconds in the MONEY MACHINE!

Bonus Cumulative Awards Students will win cumulative prizes for each level they reach! For example, a student turning in 10 orders will win the Mini Fiber Light, plus all of the prizes listed above it – the Main Event, Magic Wallet and the Backpack Safety Blinker.

Turn in one (1) order and win a Backpack Safety Blinker.
Turn in three (3) orders and win a Magic Wallet.
Turn in six (6) orders and attend the Main Event.
Turn in ten (10) orders and win a Mini Fiber Light.
Turn in fifteen (15) orders and win a Voice Email.
Turn in twenty (20) orders and win a Dancing Pad.
Turn in twenty-five (25) orders and enter the MONEY MACHINE for 15 seconds to grab cash. The MONEY MACHINE will contain $500. in cash! Students will enter the MONEY MACHINE during the halftimes of the basketball games to be held on Friday, February 4.

It’s Candy Gram Time!

Show that special someone you care and help the SFCS junior class raise funds for the Junior-Senior Prom! Monday, January 31, through Wednesday, February 9, the junior class will be continuing the tradition of ordering and delivering Candy Grams! A Candy Gram is a Valentine heart made of construction paper that includes a message from the sender to a friend. The juniors also attach Hershey’s Kisses or a plush animal to each heart and make a special delivery it to the recipient

Cost:
.25 Per Kiss
$3.00 Stuffed Animals

Candy Grams may be purchased every morning in each student’s homeroom or classroom. Parents and grandparents are welcome to send their children (or teacher) a special message, too! Correct change and completed order forms are needed to make a purchase.
