“After a year and a half it feels like Shannon
Forest and the community is my home,” said Doug
McLaughlin, Headmaster at Shannon Forest Christian
School.
Mr. McLaughlin was born in Barboursville, West
Virginia on November 4, 1949. He is one of two children.
His mom is still living in Florida and is a retired
principal. His father has passed away. His only sister
is now in her 35th year of serving on a school board
in Florida. Mr. McLaughlin has three children. He has
two twin boys named Gavin and Trevor. They are both
26 years old. He also has a daughter named Brooke who
is 25 years old.
Mr. McLaughlin was originally asked
by Shannon Forest Christian School to serve as a temporary
headmaster. He accepted the job and after the first
year was asked if he would take the permanent job.
He then became the headmaster of Shannon Forest Christian
School for the year of 2003-2004.
Mr. McLaughlin comes
from a long line of school administrators, principals
and headmasters in his family. So, naturally, he wanted
to be a principal since college. So, this job was right
up his alley. “I don’t feel like I am over
the students. I feel like I was meant for the job and
that the students and administrators are the only reason
I am here,” says Mr. McLaughlin.
“ Mr.
Doug [McLaughlin] is one of the kindest men I have
ever worked with and he has a heart the size of Texas
when it comes to the people of this school,” said
Mrs. Tracie Blakely, a co-worker of Mr. McLaughlin.
One thing Mr. McLaughlin would like people to know
about him is that he is a caring, friendly and respectful
person. He always enjoys a good dinner at Captain Bill’s
in South Florida. His favorite author is Grisham and
he likes to watch “It’s a Wonderful Life” because
it is the first movie that hit him emotionally. He
also has a passion for music. Santo Domingo in the
Dominican Republic is his favorite place to visit because
he sponsors a school there and the community is always
welcoming. Mr. McLaughlin also has a number of hobbies
including reading, woodworking, fishing and golfing.
Mr. McLaughlin has many ideas for the future of Shannon
Forest like getting new facilities and having more
students in attendance. He would also would like to
see more sports programs and music programs like choir,
band and orchestra.
“I feel like God has truly
blessed Shannon Forest with a wonderful headmaster,” said
Mrs. Gina Powell, the Main Office secretary.
