Harry
Pohl remembers one day in his 8th Grade Math class
when he had a feeling that God had a project
for him. As a child, he always had a desire to become
a Math teacher and to help children to learn Math through
Christ. Mr. Pohl has fulfilled his dream.
Today Mr.
Pohl is a Math teacher at Shannon Forest Christian
School in Greenville, South Carolina. There, he enjoys
teaching Christian students who love to learn Math. “ He
can think on a high level of thinking, which allows
him to think on many dimensions,” said Earl DeLapp,
an 11th Grade student in Mr. Pohl’s class.
When
Mr. Pohl was a child, he loved learning Math and Physics,
but he also loved to travel. He was born in California
and his family wanted to travel through all of the
states of America. This did not happen until he was
older, when he finally hit the road and traveled through
all fifty states except Hawaii and Alaska. He especially
remembers Yellow Stone National Park, his favorite
place, because of the beauty it holds and how nature
makes it awesome. He remembers walking in the mountains
getting close to bears, deer, wolves, and mountain
lions without any weapons. After a time of traveling,
he attended Florida Atlantic University. Later, he
attended Clemson University where he received his masters
and doctorate degrees. He then married Ellen, who is
an English teacher at Westside High School in Anderson,
South Carolina. They have two sons, Erik and Matthew.
One son is a programmer for Alcoa and the other is
working on his masters.
"It is obvious that
Mr. Pohl is a gifted and challenging teacher, that
cares about his students and would do anything to see
them succeed,” said Pam Erwin, one of Mr. Pohl’s
co-workers. Mr. Pohl is an example of a person who
followed his vision from Christ and is now impacting
students to do the same.
