Getting To Know You

SFCS 6th Grade students
recently
completed a Creative Writing
Project called “ Snapshots” - A Partner Memoir.

Sarah Thackston and Alex Thomason
present to the class |
Each student was
paired with another student in their class that they knew little about. Over
a period of two weeks they interviewed one another, they asked for details concerning
specific childhood memories and compiled essays on the information they gleaned.
The students used these
five “snapshots”, a timeline of their
partner’s life and pictures to make a presentation board display. Each
student then “introduced” their partner to the class in an oral presentation.
6th Grade teacher,
D’Anne Weaver shared that the
students’ favorite part of the assignment was getting to know someone they
didn’t know very
well. One student said “It shows that we can get together and get closer
as friends. If we hadn’t done
it, we wouldn’t have known.”
