character and discipline. Look for her name to be posted
on the Governor’s website!
Attention All SFCS Sophomores!

packets. Ring order packets will be available in Mrs.
Jacob’s Room. Pick-up orders and checks are due
on Wednesday, February 25, by 8:15 a.m. in Mr. Jameson’s

6th Grade Students Pain "Sistine Chapel Ceilings"
If
you stopped by Mrs. D’Anne
Weaver’s
6th Grade Class in early February, you would have first,
wondered why all her students were in their pajamas.
Your second question would have been why were they
all lying on their backs, painting the undersides of
their desks? Don’t worry, we can answer both
questions!
First, it was Homecoming Spirit Week Pajama
Day. Second, the students were participating in a 6th
Grade World History Class object lesson.
The class
had been studying the Renaissance, the Reformation
and had been talking about Michelangelo painting the
Sistine Chapel. They were intrigued to know that he
painted that masterpiece lying on his back on scaffolding
over a five-year period. To recreate the experience,
students taped paper to the bottom of their desks and
used water colors to paint an “original” work
of art - while lying on their backs. With classical
music playing in the background to set the proper mood,
students assumed the role of Michelangelo in the year
1511, the final year of his five-year project. Each
child composed a descriptive writing journal entry
at the end of their day of painting to describe their
experience.
