David Jacobs Newest Member of State Math Team
SFCS junior, David Jacobs, has been invited to be a member of the state
math team. The honor means that Jacobs is one of the
top 30 math students in the state and he will represent South Carolina
competing against the
other state teams from across the nation. To be nominated,
Jacobs had to have an S.A.T. score in a range that would put him in the
top five
percent of the total math scores. He then took a placement
test at SFCS, along with others who had been nominated. After completing
the final
level of testing at Irmo High School in Columbia, Jacobs
placed in the top 150 students in the state. Jacobs and 29 other students
will travel
to Penn State University to compete against the best
in the nation on June 5, 2004. SFCS has been well represented on the
state level as Jacobs
is one of two state math team members that have achieved
this honor in the past six years. “With the right growth, Jacobs
can be considered to represent the United States in the Math Olympiad
in Russia in his
senior year,” says SFCS Math teacher, Harry Pohl. Congratulations,
David.
