8th Grade Students Involved in Critical
Character Building Program
UPPER SCHOOL NEWS
September 10, 2004
This year, the Heritage Keepers Group was welcomed
back to SFCS to conduct a valuable Character Building
Program to our 8th Grade students. The Middle School
years are pivotal in academic, social and personal
development. Students are bombarded with messages promoting
un-Christ-like behavior. They are tempted by movies,
television and music. This Heritage course offers an
environment that promotes interesting character development
and application. Each student learns the importance
of fostering good character traits, such as meekness,
in order to serve Christ and his or her peers. The
course also allows the students to study something
that will positively affect their lives, while not
having to focus on graded academic endeavors. Each
class lasts for forty-five minutes and is conducted
during the 8th Grade Life Skills class. Ryan Godsey,
the faculty
Supervisor for the 8th Grade boys
commented, “I think this class is wonderful because it challenges the students
to think about their character. It is essential that students develop Christ-like
character so they can be influential
for Christ amongst their peers.” The course is a wonderful extension of
the Heritage Keepers Abstinence Education Program offered to SFCS 7th Grade students,
teaching them to
respect God’s creation of mankind and to take pride in their bodies and
their minds.
