BE Prepared for the SFCS Shakespeare Competition!

The SFCS Shakespeare Competition will be held on Friday, January 28, and is open to all students in Grades 10th, 11th and 12th. To prepare for the event, students must study, memorize and perform a monologue from one of Shakespeare’s plays and one of Shakespeare’s sonnets. The SFCS winner will advance to the local English-Speaking Union Branch Competition. The Branch Competition winner will receive a weekend of theatre, workshops and sightseeing in New York City. They will also win the opportunity to compete on stage. The National Competition winner will be awarded a summer course in Great Britain. Entry forms for the SFCS competition are available in the Main Office in the Middle School. The deadline for entry is Friday, January 14.

Kevin Miron Wins SFCS Geography Bee

7th Grade student, Kevin Miron came out the winner of the SFCS level competition of the National Geographic Geography Bee! Miron will now take a written test on Friday, January 24, that will be submitted to Columbia. The test is comprised of seventy questions similar to the ones on the preliminary and school level tests. The top 100 scores will participate in the state level bee sometime in March. Congratulations, Kevin!

Pull out your SFCS green and get ready for a fun-filled week of CRUSADER SPIRIT as we look forward to Homecoming 2005.

All Grades, 1st – 12th will have a blast with daily dress-up days.

Monday, January 10: Save some time in the morning and enjoy Pajama Day!

Tuesday, January 11: Character Day will give you the chance to become your favorite TV or movie character!

Wednesday, January 12: The 50s, 60s, 70s…what’s your favorite decade. Dress the part on Decade Day!

Thursday, January 13: Go Team! Wear the colors of your favorite college on College Day!

Friday, January 14: “Green & White Fight, Fight!” Wear your SFCS Spirit wear!

A Night On The Town

Upper School Homecoming Dance to be held in the Lower School Multi-purpose Room

SFCS Students Learn the Meaning of Self-Respect

SFCS and Heritage Community Services are once again working together to educate students about the importance of abstaining from sexual activity outside of marriage. Students in the 7th Grade will learn about setting values and goals, important information on reproduction, critical news on STDs and they will take part in rewarding character building exercises. Classes will be divided by gender and be taught by an instructor of the same gender. The Abstinence Education Program began on Friday, January 7, and will continue into March.

English Students To Spend A Day At The Theatre

Students in the English class of Marsha Penn will travel to the Peace Center on Thursday, January 20, to see the production of The Twelfth Night. A production of the Aquila Theatre, this presentation blends innovative, contemporary staging with one of Shakespeare’s most amusing comedies. Students will depart from school at 11:00 a.m. and return to campus by 3:00 p.m.
