The SFCS Middle and Upper
School Campus will be transformed
into the Shakespearean Era when 6th – 12th Grade students enjoy SFCS
Renaissance Day on Friday, January 28! Students may wear Renaissance attire
for the day. Costume ideas will be modeled in chapel on Wednesday, January
26. Students will dine on smoked turkey legs, corn on the cob, rolls, apple
cake and ginger ale in the Upper School Cafeteria that will be transformed
into a castle. 4th & 5th Grade students and parents are welcome, if they
pre-order lunches. The cost of the meal will be $5.00. There will be no Papa
Johns ordered on this day. After lunch, students will report to 4th period
classes and will gather in the Gymnasium with their class.
The Shakespeare
Competition will begin at 1:45 p.m. Competing students have studied, memorized,
and will perform a monologue from one of Shakespeare’s plays and one
of Shakespeare’s sonnets. The SFCS winner will advance to the local English-Speaking
Union Branch Competition. The Branch Competition winner will receive a weekend
of theatre, workshops and sightseeing in New York City. They will also win
the opportunity to compete on stage. The National Competition winner will be
awarded a summer course in Great Britain. Following the 30-minute competition,
Upper School Drama students will perform a 30-minute, humorous Reduced Shakespeare
play.
Following the play, students will enjoy a Shakespeare,
word game played in a game show format. Judges will
return with the results of the Shakespeare
Competition at the
end of the day.
6th, 7th & 8th Grade Valentine’s Dance
All
SFCS students in 6th – 8th Grades are invited
to attend the annual Valentine’s Dance to be
held on Saturday, February 5, from 8:00 p.m. – 11:00
p.m. The dance will feature a D.J., snacks and sweets
and a soda bar. It will be held in the Multi-purpose
Room of Building 300 on the Lower School Campus. Parents
will be required to drop-off and pick-up students at
the start and end of the dance. No student is allowed
to leave the campus without adult supervision. The
attire for this event is dressy casual for girls and
collared shirts with khaki pants for the boys. NO jeans
are allowed. Please adhere to the SFCS dress code.

Any senior who is interested
in submitting a drawing for the Senior Class Day
program, must do so before the deadline on Tuesday,
February
1.
7th Grade Students Learn the Meaning of Self-Respect
SFCS and Heritage Community Services are once again
working together to educate students about the importance
of abstaining from sexual activity outside of marriage.
Students in the 7th Grade will learn about setting
values and goals, important information on reproduction,
critical news on STDs and they will take part in
rewarding character building exercises. Classes are
divided by
gender and taught by an instructor of the same gender.
Abstinence Education Classes will be held from 2:15
p.m. until 3:15 p.m. on the following days: Thursday,

17, and Friday, February 18, SFCS will be administering
the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Career
Test to all students in 11th and 12th Grades. The test
will take place in the following classrooms from 10:05
a.m. until 11:35 a.m..

This
test is a nationally normed, multi-aptitude test offered
to students in 11th – 12th Grades. Each year,
it is given to over 750,000 students in approximately
14,000 high schools across the nation. The career exploration
segment of the ASVAB Career Exploration Program is
based on John R. Holland’s RIASEC Hexagon and
his theory that people search for work environments
with the same characteristics as their personalities.
During this segment, students are shown how to relate
their aptitudes, interests and values to over 400 civilian
and military occupations. The test is administered
at no cost to SFCS and test results are returned within
fourteen days. Artistic Articles
There will be a Fine Arts Festival
Competition at St. Joseph’s Catholic School on
Wednesday, February 2. SFCS students displaying artwork
will need to be there by 5:00 p.m. A dinner and judging
will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m
Drama Scripts
Enjoy A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Performers at
Greenville’s Warehouse Theatre are offering a
special performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream
for SFCS students and teachers. See Drama teacher,
Brenda Stephens if you would like to take part in this
evening of theater on Thursday, January. 27, at 8:00
p.m. The cost is $8.00 per ticket. Tickets will sell
out quickly and must be purchased through Brenda Stephens.
