The following students were recently inducted into
the National Honor Society (NHS) and the National Junior
Honor Society (NJHS) in a ceremony that was held on
Sunday, February 27. Students who received this honor
were selected by faculty members on the basis of scholarship,
character, leadership and service. To be eligible,
a student must first have met the scholarship criteria
by obtaining a 3.5 GPA and must have attended SFCS
for at least one semester. Faculty scores then determined
whether each eligible student met the requirements
in the areas of character, leadership and service.

SFCS Students Advance In State Math Testing
Four students from the SFCS Math Team have succeeded
in the difficult task of placing in the top 130 students
in the state! Seniors David Jacobs, Alex Lown and Ben
Van Dyke will join junior, Robert McFarlin to represent
SFCS in the next level of State Math Team testing to
be held in Irmo, South Carolina on Saturday, March
5. Each school in the state was asked to nominate students
based on the SAT or ACT scores from recent years. Those
460 students took a qualifying exam in the state semifinals.
After taking a written test and participating in a
group interaction session in Irmo, the top 50 students
will represent South Carolina at Penn State University
in June. Andrew Schwendler was a student pointed out
by Dr. Trautman, Chairman of the State Math Team Selection
Committee, as a freshman who almost made the cut this
year. “To have this many students from a school,
with as few students as are represented, is statistically
very improbable,” said SFCS Math Team Coach Harry
Pohl. “It does show the blessing we have received
in having such a gifted group of students.”
