What better way to learn Math than to calculate
the fun at Carowinds Park in Charlotte, North Carolina!
SFCS 8th Grade students will depart at 8:10 a.m. on
Friday, April 1, for a first-hand look at algebraic
and geometric formulas used in building roller coasters.
One has to think a little bit of fun will also be experienced
in this mega field trip! Students are required to pay
the $50 fee that covers entrance to the park, a catered
lunch and transportation. All those embarking on this
math adventure will also need to bring a calculator,
pencil and money for a fast food dinner on the way
home. SFCS dress code rules apply on this trip, however
appropriate t-shirts are allowed. No flip-flops or
short shorts will be accepted. The Water Park will
not be open, so there is no need to wear swimsuits.
If you have any questions regarding this trip, please
contact Amber Thompson at

6th Grade Plans Annual Trip To Barrier Island
Students
in the 6th Grade are preparing to get wet and muddy
as they finalize plans for their favorite trip of the
year to South Carolina’s Barrier Island. Participants
include 41 students, 3 teachers and 17 brave parent
chaperones who will enjoy the island’s nature
from Monday, April 11, (departure at 7:30 a.m.) through
Wednesday, April 13, (arrival at 5:00 p.m.). Activities
will include hiking the beach and salt marsh trails,
where no one escapes the mud - and wading out into
the ocean to net living organisms. They will also study
life in a fresh water pond and take a class which groups
individuals together to use teamwork, cooperation and
communication to solve problems. Evenings will be spent
around the campfire and playing group challenge games.
