ACSI Math League Puts SFCS In 1st Place!
SFCS has captured 1st place in the state in every category from Pre- Algebra through A.P. Calculus in the recent Association of Christian Schools (ACSI) International Math Competition. Christian schools from seven states in the Southeast competed in the event. The Pre- Algebra classes finished in 11th place in the Southeast region with John Absher and Devon Thurman recording the highest score at SFCS. The students in the Algebra I class placed 15th in the region with Will Robinson and Philip Van Dyke taking top honors. Geometry classes placed 8th in the region with Andrew Schwendler taking top honors. Schwendler was the first student in school history to take top honors in two classes in the same year, winning both in Geometry and Algebra II. He also brought home the 3rd highest score in the region. The Algebra II classes took 4th place in the Southeast with Caroline Hopkins placing 1st at SFCS. Ben Van Dyke and David Jacobs took the top scores at SFCS in Calculus and placed 2nd in the region and the nation - missing a perfect score by just one question. As a class, the Calculus students - Van Dyke, Jacobs, LeeAnn Funk and Earl DeLapp placed 2nd in the Southeast. Congratulations to all SFCS Math students for terrific efforts that really paid off with rewards at both the state and regional rankings.
SFCS Senior Math Team Members Depart With Memories of Excellence and Victories
The seniors on this year's Math Team are leaving our school on a very good note and they will take with them memories of excellence, victories and firsts for SFCS. These students have always placed in the top ten schools in the state at the University of South Carolina Math Meet - with many of them having competed for six years in a row. They were on the ACSI team that placed 1st in the Southeast and took 2nd place in the nation in Algebra II testing with Ben Van Dyke scoring top in the nation. David Jacobs scored 2nd in the nation. Both students were selected to represent the South Carolina on the State Math Team as two of the top fifty math students in the state. Van Dyke was the first student in SFCS history to take the American Invitational Math Exam and place in the top twelve our of 450 students in the nation. Jacobs, Van Dyke, LeeAnn Funk, Earl DeLapp, Alex Lown, Robert McFarlin, Kirsty Jacobs and Andrew Schwendler recently took the written test at USC and took 3rd place in the state out of all IA, IIA and private schools in the state. Their trophy will be placed with others in the Upper School. Congratulations, Team!
Israel Mission Trip Update
I want to thank each of you for praying for the students - Earl DeLapp, Will Keown, Sarah O'Kelley, Marshall Wilson, Rachel Blakely, Amanda Seppala, Alex Lown and Holly Seppala, the two parents - Mr. DeLapp and Mr. Sarkela and me as we prepare ourselves to go to Israel on Sunday, May 29.. The group will be painting, cleaning mold invested homes and ministering to families in dire need who have lived in the fallout of bombings and violence in their communities. We will be taking gifts to the children of each family and ' home' gifts like sheets, etc. to the moms. Please pray for these families as we prepare to minister in these homes and that God will work through us.
Next Saturday, May 14, the group is having a car wash in the parking lot of Chick-fil-A on Wade Hampton from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All proceeds will go toward the trip. Please pray for each student and adult - that God would change their hearts forever, that He would open their eyes to Him and reveal Himself to them in a new way.
James 1:27 reads 'Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.'
