SFCS Middle School Soccer Team Face Tough Ending to a Season

October 18, 2011 - The Shannon Forest Christian School (SFCS) Middle School Boys' Soccer team took part in the CMSC Tournament on Thursday, October 13, and Friday, October 14. The Crusaders came into the tournament ranked 3rd out of the 5 teams. "We have potential to do well over the next few days," said Head Coach Jared Farquhar, "I am looking forward to seeing what these boys can do." The tournament kicked off with SFCS playing Oakbrook Prep on Thursday afternoon at Shannon Forest - host school for the tournament. SFCS was unable to put much together and looked tired playing Oakbrook. The Crusaders where unable to score in the first half after a few chances and Oakbrook was able to put 2 goals over the head of the keeper before half for a 2-0 lead. Shannon continued the pressure, but were unable to break down the defense and let 2 more goals in during the second half for a 4-0 loss in the second round of the tournament. When asked about the game, Farquhar said, "the guys were tired and Oakbrook is a good team, they deserve the credit and the win, best of luck to them tomorrow."
SFCS Faced Mitchell Road Christian Academy (MRCA) on Friday in the 3rd place consolation game after the Eagles lost to Spartanburg Day School the night before. These 2 teams had met 2 times during the regular season and both times the Crusaders were able to walk away with the win. After some pressure on both sides of the ball, Tyler Bradley took the ball to the corner and had a cross to Nick Gray who found the back of the net for the opening goal. After that it became all MRCA and the Eagles scored a quick answer within a minute to get the score back even. They continued the pressure and put in their second goal after a corner kick to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead going into half time. After the half it continued to be about MRCA as they put 3 more goals in to win the 3rd place trophy for the tournament. "Congratulations to MRCA. They played a great game" said Farquhar. "I am very proud of my guys and what they did over the season. We have a lot to be thankful for and they still can walk off this field with their heads high after what they did this season" he continued.
Two players from SFCS were selected to the All Conference Team, Tyler Bradley and Graham Ethridge. The Crusaders finished the year out with 4 wins and 7 losses but learned a lot and had a lot of fun. "I am looking forward to next year and seeing the boys continue to grow into men and better soccer players."
