SFCS Lady Crusaders Prepare for 1A Challenge
March 8, 2010 - The Shannon Forest Christian School (SFCS) Varsity Women's Soccer team will field its largest roster in over two years this spring, with sixteen players wearing the black and yellow this upcoming season. The team will be very young with zero seniors on the roster, but will return three all-conference players, two of whom made all-state last year. The Lady Crusaders will compete in the 1A ranks this season and will hope to feed off the recent success of other SFCS sports teams from this year. SFCS will face a tough schedule like always with the normal CAA Conference opponents. Also, the Lady Crusaders will play two public schools and two of the best 1A schools in North Carolina. "I am very excited about the upcoming season," said SFCS Head Coach Scott Simmons. "We have a core group of players that are ready to lead and a very talented group of young players. The drop to 1A is very promising for us and we hope to do well after two successful years in 2A," added Simmons. "Our 1A games are very important for us this year, but we will still try and battle for the conference championship as well." The Lady Crusaders open up their season next week on the road with four games. They will take on two local high schools; Monday March 8, at Southside High at 6:00 p.m. and Tuesday March 9, at Greer High at 7:00 p.m. The team will then take a weekend trip to Wilson, North Carolina to take on 1A opponents Greenfield School and Faith Christian. The games are Friday, March 12, at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 13, at 12:00 p.m.
