Crusader Volleyball Team Season Comes to an End
October 31, 2011 - The Shannon Forest Christian School (SFCS) Varsity Volleyball team went into the NCISAA Class A State Tournament hoping to pull off another upset against the number seven seed Statesville Christian. The Lady Crusaders got off to a slow start in game one and ultimately made too many mistakes to overcome for a loss of 25-13. Game two started in the same way, but the Crusaders made a late run to close the gap, only to fall short 25-19. Shannon Forest, however, did not go down without a fight. An early lead turned into a 19-12 lead for the Crusaders late in game three. The errors crept back into the Crusader play and cost them momentum to the Lions. Statesville stormed back to win game three 25-22 and end the Crusader's season. Youth, inexperience and injuries proved to be insurmountable for the Crusaders. The team finished the season with an 11-17 record and hope to return to their winning ways next season as they graduate only one player. Lone senior, Jordan Robertson, was selected to play in the 1A/2A East versus West Oasis All-Star game for seniors on Saturday, November 12, at Charlotte Latin, in North Carolina.
