It’s Christmas!  This is a time of excitement and wonder.  We get to take time off from work, spend time with family, and, give and receive gifts.  I love all of these traditions.  Each one seems to be saying that Christmas means something special, but what does Christmas mean?

In “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” we sing about it: “Veiled in flesh, the Godhead see; hail the Incarnate Deity.” There it is…that special word…the real meaning of Christmas.  Incarnation! Tim Keller writes, “If you understand the word incarnation, you’ll understand what Christmas is about.”  Yes, we are to enjoy all the things that come with Christmas, but each one should point us to the real reason for the season.  God came in the flesh to live the life we could not live and die the death we could not die, in order to give us the life God created for us - life with Him eternally.

I John 4:2 tells us that that God did indeed come in the flesh and live in our midst. Christmas means, first and foremost, that God came to us so we would be able to come to Him. As you enjoy this Christmas season, may you rejoice in that reality which was given to you by Him who was “veiled in flesh” and hailed as “the Incarnate Deity.”  Thank you for trusting us with the education of your children.  On behalf of all of us, we wish you a very Merry Christmas!

In His Service,
Craig L. Bouvier, Ph.D.
