“Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous! For praise from the upright is beautiful. Praise the Lord with the harp; Make melody to Him with an instrument of ten strings. Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy.” - Psalm 33:1-3
Our music department at Shannon Forest Christian School exists for the purpose of training students to use their God-given talents for His glory, singing His praise, and sharing His Word through music and their lives. Our general music classes (PK3-5th Grade) explore various styles and genres of music, teach the basics of music theory and sight-singing, and include rehearsals for various performances throughout the year. Performances include, but are not limited to: All School Chapel services, Christmas and Spring plays/musicals, Grandparents Day, and school preview nights. Opportunities for personal accomplishment are available to students in the form of auditions for South Carolina Elementary Honors Chorus.
Classes discover the joys of singing alone as well as singing as a group. Students experiment with body percussion and explore a variety of instruments. Students will also begin to explore themselves through free and creative movement.
KT through 5th Grade
Students learn about reading rhythms, music terminology, reading music, basic form, and matching pitch. A variety of techniques and teaching methods are used to allow the student to experience and participate in the joys of music. Special efforts are made to try to incorporate music songs that relate to different topics being studied in the core classroom.
