Middle School Model United Nations is a program of the South Carolina YMCA Youth in Government program, and the only Middle School specific conference. Students work in small groups to represent a country of their choice. The conference provides a platform for students to learn about global issues, while also learning how to work in a team and think critically. Each year, the conference is held in Black Mountain, North Carolina at the YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly Center.
What do ambassadors do at the Conference?
While at the conference, ambassadors work in small groups to represent a country. They present a proposal (written prior to the conference) and debate other student’s proposals. They also present their country at the annual Festival of Nations.
How can High School students participate in this Conference?
High School students serve as resource staff for the conference and work with Middle School country groups to help them throughout the conference, preside over committee and council sessions, and help oversee the conference. High School resource staff members must submit an application and complete a training course prior to the conference. Shannon Forest Christian School High School students are encouraged to participate in the conference in this way, but their participation is not organized through the school.
